1.Introduction & Overview

Welcome to Online Linux Terminal (accessible from https://onlinelinuxterminal.com). Your privacy is of fundamental importance to us. This Privacy Policy outlines the types of information we collect, how it is used, how cookies and third-party advertising technologies function on our website, and the controls available to you under international data protection laws, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA).

By using our website, you hereby consent to our Privacy Policy and agree to its terms. If you have additional questions or require more information about our Privacy Policy, please contact us at support@onlinelinuxterminal.com.

2.Local Browser Storage & Virtual File System (VFS)

Online Linux Terminal is built upon a Client-Side AST (Abstract Syntax Tree) Simulation Architecture. The primary execution engine, virtual terminal sessions, file creation, command history, and custom directory modifications operate entirely inside your local web browser:

  • IndexedDB Storage: We use your browser's local IndexedDB (via idb-keyval) to preserve your simulated files (such as /home/user/ files) across browser refreshes. This data never leaves your device and is never uploaded to our servers.
  • LocalStorage & SessionStorage: Used strictly to save user preferences, such as selected UI color themes, terminal font sizes, and challenge progress.
  • Zero Remote File Transmission: Any files you create, edit with nano or vim, or delete inside the simulated terminal are stored strictly on your local device.

3.Log Files & Analytics

Like most modern websites, Online Linux Terminal follows standard procedures using server log files. The information collected by log files includes:

  • Internet Protocol (IP) addresses (anonymized where required by applicable law)
  • Browser type and version (e.g., Chrome, Firefox, Safari)
  • Operating System (e.g., Linux, Windows, macOS, Android, iOS)
  • Internet Service Provider (ISP)
  • Date and timestamp of visits
  • Referring/exit pages and click paths
  • Approximate geographic region (country/city level)

This data is not linked to any personally identifiable information. The purpose of this information is to analyze technical trends, administer the platform, track aggregate user movement, monitor server health, and optimize web performance.

4.Google AdSense & Third-Party Advertising

We partner with third-party vendors, including Google AdSense, to serve advertisements on our content pages to keep the terminal simulator completely free for learners worldwide.
