Linux Navigation Basics & Traversal
Mastering the Linux Filesystem Hierarchy starts with knowing where you are and how to move between directories. In this lesson, you will practice printing your current path, listing hidden files, and inspecting file contents.
Lesson Objectives
4 Steps1Step 1: Check Current Directory Path
Run `pwd` (print working directory) to verify your current location in the filesystem hierarchy.
2Step 2: List Directory Contents in Long Format
Run `ls -la` to inspect all files, including hidden dotfiles, permissions, owner, and sizes.
3Step 3: Read System Welcome Message
Run `cat welcome.txt` to read the initial setup guide in your home directory.
4Step 4: Navigate into Projects Directory
Run `cd projects` and run `ls` to see what files exist inside the projects folder.
💡 Pro Tip:
Use `cd ..` to navigate up one level in the hierarchy, or `cd ~` to return to your home directory from anywhere.
